Hello! I am sure you are wondering who I am. I would begin introducing myself. My name is Shmuel Khorsandi. I was born in Israel. When I was 12 years old, my family and I moved to Los Angeles, California. I love it here in Los Angeles. There are many things to do in California.
Los Angeles has multiple cultures and diverse. I love meeting people from all over, learning about their cultures, eating different food and going to multi-cultural events. In middle school, I first learned ASL and fell in love with it. That motivates to go to Gallaudet university for my undergraduate. I studied in Spanish because I was exposed to Mexican culture in Los Angeles and taking Spanish classes in high school. When I applied to Gallaudet University, I decided to combine my two passions, Spanish and Psychology as my major.
My experiences in Gallaudet was valuable because I was able to teach abroad in Colombia and Spain. I realized that teaching is a field I want to be in. After graduation, I was lucky to get the opportunity to teach in Thailand. It was hard at first, I had to learn Thai Sign Language and culture. I felt yes this something I want to do as a career. Back in L.A. I got a part time job teaching ASL to hearing students. This was different for me because teaching deaf. As a result, I pursued in Master in Sign Language in Education at Gallaudet University in 2017. I I am inspired by my students, they passion to learn ASL and Deaf culture.
