Jennifer Cabrera is a first generation doctoral student in Sociology with an emphasis in Chicano/Latino Studies at UC Irvine. She recently earned a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Human Development at UC Irvine. Jennifer earned her bachelor's degree in Child and Adolescent Development with a minor in Psychology at CSUN.
Her NSF-funded research sheds light on the supportive social relationships (or lack thereof) and academic achievement among Latina doctoral students. Most recently, she has focused on cultural and gendered familial expectations endured by Latinas in higher education.
She is the founder of Academic Latina, a digital community filled with resources and guidance for Latinas pursuing higher education who may lack the necessary support from their academic institution, peers, and family. Jennifer has several years of experience in both online and face-to-face mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students from marginalized populations.
